Before you apply

What you will need to complete registration

  • Confirmation of charity registration
A copy of the letter from the Guernsey Registry confirming your Registered Charity status.

Ideally audited. Please include both your Income & Expenditure Accounts and Balance Sheet. If your organisation is in its first year and does not yet have accounts, please provide proof of a bank account in your organisation’s name.

Membership applications

Membership is open to any charity or non-profit organisation that is registered with the Guernsey Registry. We will also consider applications from non-registered charitable organisations and will be looking for evidence that the organisation are well-governed.

Once submitted, your application and supporting documents will be reviewed by our Board of Directors, and you will be notified of the outcome. If your application is successful, your organisation’s details will be listed in the members’ directory. These details will be taken directly from your membership application form, so please ensure every section is completed accurately and fully.

Please remember to inform us if any of your organisation’s information changes, including contact details, so that our records remain up to date.

Contacts

This application requires two contacts:

  1. Primary contact
A senior representative within your organisation who will receive all official communications from the Association — such as meeting notices, sector updates and charity/volunteer information.

  2. Public contact
The person to be listed on our website for members of the public to contact your organisation.

Charity registration

The Association of Guernsey Charities is not a regulator and does not maintain the statutory register of charities.

Under the Charities and Non Profit Organisation (Registration) (Guernsey) Law, 2008, all NPOs operating in Guernsey, Alderney, Herm or Jethou must register with the Office of the Registrar — unless they qualify for an exemption.

You may be exempt if your organisation has:

  • gross assets and funds under £100,000, or

  • gross annual income under £20,000

Information and application forms for statutory charity registration are available from the Guernsey Registry:
